Between London and Los Angeles: forming microcosmic diasporas of cultural belongings and contemporary Indigenous art at the British Museum [working title - forthcoming book]
This publication connects contemporary Native North American art with the British Museum’s collections. It centres Indigenous voices, advocates for collaboration and co-curation in museum practice, and addresses visibility and representation, colonial legacies, art activism, identity, and contemporary Indigenous artworlds. The research is grounded in nine years of work in this field and draws on case studies from the British Museum and collaborations with Indigenous artists, particularly in Los Angeles. Featuring guest authors Tima Link (Šmuwič Chumash), Mattie Reynolds (Choctaw), Cara Romero (Chemehuevi), Wendy Red Star (Apsáalooke Crow), Melinda Schwakhofer (Muscogee) Adrian Stimson (Siksika Nation) and guest interviews with Pamela J Peters (Diné Navajo), River Garza (Tongva/ Mexican), Kit Thomas (Mohawk).
